Course Description:  The Defensive Pistol 1 course is an intermediate to advanced pistol shooting course that builds on the introduction to defensive pistol course. Students will learn defensive shooting techniques that will likely be required in an actual self defense situation. While mantaining shooting fundamentals, students will be challenged with several shooting drills, injected malfunctions and movement techniques.

This is an intermediate to advanced level course, beginning students should attend one of our NRA Basic Pistol courses or the KTG200 Intro to Defensive Shooting (w/ CHP class)

The Defensive Pistol 1 course covers the following:

  • Firearm Safety Rules review
  • Safe Handling of Firearms review
  • 5 step presentation from holster drills
  • Defensive shooting vs Target shooting
  • Shooting Fundamentals review
  • Trigger reset drills
  • Sighted and Unsighted shooting techniques
  • Malfunction Drills – instruction and timed
    • Type 1 – Failure to fire / Misfire – 1.4 second goal
    • Type 2 – Failure to eject (stovepipe) – 1.6 second goal
    • Type 3 – Failure to extract / Double Feed – 5.7 second goal
    • Type 4 – Out of Battery – 1.4 second goal
  • Reloading Drills – instruction and timed
    • Tactical Reload – 4.5 second goal
    • Combat / Emergency reload – 1.4 second goal
  •  Failure drills (range)
  •  Movement techniques
  •  Shooting from barricade
  •  Lines of force and advanced presentation techniques
  •  Firing from defensive retention
  •  Tueller Drill demonstration (“21 foot rule”)
  •  25 round qualification course and graduation
